"EWC is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Canadian teens to meet young people from across the country. Spend a week in your nation's capital. Take part in exciting adventures, explore future career options, learn more about your country, share your hopes and dreams - all through exclusive hands-on workshops, presentations and excursions. On February 3rd, students and staff from the Salisbury Cosmetology department donated their time to shave the heads of all the Wes Hosford Hair Massicure victims.

Twenty-eight staff and students at Wes Hosford elementary colored their hair and had it shaved off to raise awareness and money for the Stollery and the Ronald McDonald House.   In total the event raised over $4000.

Pearson, the makers of PowerSchool, have released the next generation of the program - PowerSchool 7. In order to minimize disruptions to the second semester, Elk Island Public Schools will be migrating to the new version during Teachers' Convention weekend, February 9 to 12, 2012.

PowerSchool, including the Parent Portal, will be unavailable from Wednesday, February 8 at 6:00 p.m. until Monday, February 13 at 6:00 a.m. Please remain logged off the system during this time.

If you have any questions about PowerSchool, please contact the school office at 780-467-8816.

Accountablility Pillar Survey

As an annual check-up on the education system, the Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity for Alberta Education and school authorities to ensure that we're equipping students for success.

The Accountability Pillar uses a set of 16 indicators consisting of surveys of students, parents and teachers on various aspects of quality; student outcomes such as dropout and high school completion rates; and provincial assessments of student learning.

From January to the end of February, Alberta Education will be conducting the annual Accountability Pillar Survey.  In January, parents of students in grades 4, 7 and 10 will receive a survey from Alberta Education.  In February, students in grades 4, 7 and 10 and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school.

All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about experiences with the school.  In addition to English and French, the parent survey is available in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Cree, Korean, Spanish and Tagalog.

Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving, so we encourage you to return your survey promptly.

Survey results will be available to school authorities in May 2012, and will be reported publicly as part of their 3-Year Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports.

The deadline for completing the parent survey is February 24.

Information for new students to Salisbury!

Browse through our website for registration, calendar, program, and other information to help you plan for this year. For general information about Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS), visit the division website at www.eips.ca. For an appointment to register a new student please contact our School Registrar at 780-467-8816.

*New* Boundary Exemption Information.

It is common practice within Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) for families to register their children at their Designated School, as all schools in the division provide quality educational programming. You can find your Designated School by using the Versatrans e-Link tool on EIPS' website at www.eips.ca/versatrans-e-link.

In the event of extenuating circumstances, parents/guardians/independent students may wish to apply to a school other than the designated school (School of Choice). Please note the following processes and timelines if you are requesting a School of Choice:

  • January 9 to February 15, 2012 - The Boundary Exemption Request form available on EIPS' website at www.eips.ca must be completed in full and submitted to the principal of the designated school.
  • March 9, 2012 - Principals will contact families regarding the decision about their requests.
  • March 16, 2012 - Last day to submit written appeals to Bev Fleming, Associate Superintendent.
  • March 23, 2012 - Appeal decisions made and communicated to families.

Boundary Exemption requests made after February 15, 2012 must be submitted directly to Bev Fleming, Associate Superintendent at Central Services (683 Wye Road). Families are dissuaded from this practice unless they move into the division after this date.

Standard EIPS' practices allow students who have been granted a boundary exemption to continue attending their School of Choice until they move to a grade not offered at that school. At that point, should they choose to explore another School of Choice option, they must again submit a Boundary Exemption Request form for the new School of Choice.

Parents/guardians/independent students who are interested in School of Choice busing are responsible for contacting Student Transportation. School of Choice busing is not guaranteed, and families are responsible for the associated transportation fees, if applicable, which are due June 30, 2012. For further information or to make transportation arrangements, please contact EIPS' Student Transportation department at 780-417-8151 or by e-mail at st@eips.ca.

If you have questions regarding the boundary exemption process, please contact Todd Filipek, Principal at 780-467-8816. or Bev Fleming, Associate Superintendent at 780-417-8227.

Bell Schedule

Our bell schedule is available under About Us/Bell Schedule on this website to assist you in planning appointments for your children.

General information, applicable fees, and FAQs about busing are available on the Student Transportation page of the EIPS' division website. If you have questions about Student Transportation, contact them at 780-417-8151 or st@ei.educ.ab.ca.

Community Consultation-Re-Imagining our Sherwood Park Schools: Student, Program, and Boundary Plan

As approved by Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) Board of Trustees and identified in our Three Year Education Plan, one of our priorities is a review of school boundaries and programs within Sherwood Park. Given the recent demographic and program population changes in Sherwood Park, it is necessary to review and re-imagine our Sherwood Park schools to determine the best possible use of our facilities and the locations of programs for the maximum benefit of all students. Inclement Weather Reminder

Although the temperatures have warmed up in the past week, we do live in Alberta and the weather can change in a matter of minutes. Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) reminds parents to please dress children appropriately for the weather when getting them ready for school or the bus.

In the event of inclement weather conditions, your best source of information regarding bus route cancellations is the division website. The Bus Status section (www.eips.ca/bus-status) is updated in real time whenever bus cancellations or delays occur. Please make note of your children's bus number(s) so you can quickly and easily check the bus status using this valuable tool. When all bus routes within a large geographic region of EIPS are cancelled, we also post this information in the home page article. It is interesting to note that EIPS' website traffic spiked more than 500 per cent when the cold weather hit on January 17, so it appears many of you are already using this tool.

For more information or to determine your children's bus number(s), contact EIPS' Student Transportation department at 780-417-8151.
